In the last week of January 2020, the Association for the Promotion of Research in Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology (ATVB) invited 100 healthcare professionals to the picturesque Alpine town of Innsbruck in Austria to attend the 21st International Meeting Integrated Management of Acute and Chronic Cardiovascular Diseases.
From Prevention to Intervention
The conference covered a broad spectrum within the field of cardiovascular disease management from prevention to intervention, while focusing specifically on the following topics:
- Atrial Fibrillation
- Acute Cardiovascular Care
- Heart Failure
- Interventional Cardiology
- Structural Heart Disease
The four-day event was organized by Prim. Univ.-Prof. Kurt Huber from the Wilhelminenspital in Vienna, Austria together with Harald Darius (Germany) and two colleagues from the United States; Bernard Gersh and Chris Granger. Patrons of the conference included the European Platelet Academy (EPA) and the Acute Cardiovascular Care Association (ACCA), which is a branch of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). Over 40 international and national experts presented and debated current clinical research data as part of master lectures, symposia and interactive clinical case discussions.
Lectures included among many other topics:
- Controversies in Interventional Cardiology and Acute Cardiovascular Care
- The Impact of Socioeconomic Status on CV Disease: Wealth is Health?
- Perioperative Atrial Fibrillation: Transient and Benign or a Major Long-term Problem
Plus, a range of interesting real-world patient cases was also discussed on the last day of the event.
